JOIN THE STUDIO

Senior Interior Designer

FULL TIME . HOVE STUDIO

Studio 9 Design is looking for an accomplished Senior Interior Designer to join our team.

This is a hands on senior role for a designer with strong creative judgement, technical confidence and the experience to lead high-end residential projects from first idea to final installation.

You will take ownership of projects while contributing to the wider studio, setting standards, supporting the design team and ensuring our work is as rigorous in its delivery as it is in its design.

The Role

You will lead residential projects across concept, design development, technical delivery, procurement and installation.

Working closely with clients, architects, consultants, contractors, makers and suppliers, you will be responsible for protecting the design intent while keeping projects clear, coordinated and moving forward.

The role requires someone who can move comfortably between the creative and practical: developing a scheme, presenting to a client, interrogating a drawing, reviewing a budget and resolving a detail on site.

You will also be a senior voice within the studio — providing direction when needed, anticipating pressure points and helping the team produce its best work.

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead high-end residential projects from concept to completion, taking responsibility for design quality, programme and delivery.

  • Create and develop intelligent, considered interiors with a strong command of space, proportion, material, colour, furniture and lighting.

  • Translate concepts into clear, buildable design through rigorous drawings, specifications, schedules and detailing.

  • Own project programmes, budgets and procurement, understanding the commercial impact of design decisions as they are made.

  • Lead client relationships with confidence, clarity and discretion.

  • Direct presentations and design reviews, communicating ideas with conviction and responding thoughtfully to feedback.

  • Coordinate architects, consultants, contractors, craftspeople and suppliers, keeping the many moving parts of a project aligned.

  • Maintain a strong presence on site, reviewing workmanship, resolving design questions and safeguarding the integrity of the scheme.

  • Oversee FF&E sourcing, specification and procurement through to installation and final styling.

  • Anticipate risks rather than react to them, identifying gaps, dependencies and decisions before they affect delivery.

  • Maintain precise project information and ensure drawings, specifications, approvals and budgets remain current.

  • Guide junior and mid-level designers, raising the quality of both their thinking and their output.

  • Work with the studio leadership team to balance priorities, resources and deadlines across live projects.

  • Challenge and improve the way we work, bringing greater clarity, consistency and efficiency to the studio without compromising creativity.

About You

You are an experienced interior designer with a strong portfolio of completed high-end residential work and a clear understanding of what it takes to deliver an exceptional project.

Your creative instincts are matched by technical ability. You can see the whole project without losing sight of the detail, and you understand when to push an idea, when to solve a problem and when a decision simply needs to be made.

You will bring:

  • Significant experience within a respected interior design studio or practice.

  • A portfolio demonstrating a sophisticated design sensibility and completed residential projects.

  • Proven experience leading projects through concept, detailed design, procurement, construction and installation.

  • Excellent spatial planning, technical detailing and specification skills.

  • A strong working knowledge of construction, materials, finishes, bespoke joinery, furniture and lighting.

  • Confidence managing budgets, programmes, procurement and project priorities.

  • The ability to read, question and coordinate technical information across multiple disciplines.

  • Experience working directly with clients, contractors, consultants and specialist suppliers.

  • Strong commercial judgement and an understanding of the relationship between ambition, cost and programme.

  • The confidence to lead and the generosity to mentor.

  • Exceptional attention to detail, balanced by an ability to see what matters most.

  • A composed, pragmatic approach when projects become demanding.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Proficiency in the software required to design, document and deliver projects effectively.

  • Flexibility to travel to project sites as required.
